I'm so in love with the Columbia Saturday Trail pant line! I used to buy convertible and isolated versions and I loved them. Although I only received these pants today and haven't had a chance to test them other than trying them on and wearing them around the house for a while, they are made from the same material. and are sewn the same way as the convertible pants, and I'd say I'm a proven expert on how this fabric works! I go on long walks/hikes at least 4 days a week and do weekend hikes several times a year and I've worn convertible pants (including a 27 mile hike). a 1 day hike in October!) I've worn them through every Spring/Autumn weather imaginable (except snow), temps between 40 and 100 and I've ALWAYS felt comfortable in these pants! They protect against cold wind, but at the same time let the air through. The shady path allows you to walk under the hot sun and feel equally comfortable. The Saturday Trail pants are extremely durable. They protect your feet from sun, mud, slush, bugs and bushes and are still feather light. I've worn them between sandstones, thorny rose bushes, bushes, rocks and barbed wire and I haven't gotten addicted to them! I've done a lot of crawling in the woods and kneeling on the cobblestone sidewalks to take care of my dog and I have no knee wear on these pants. They feel truly weightless both on your body and in your luggage/backpack and pack easily into small spaces. These are the best pants I can imagine for travel! No matter what you pull them through, these pants look great! They won't wrinkle, dirt is removed instantly, and stains wash out easilyโeven with a simple fast-food napkin and a melted ice cube. yes, that has happened many times. I've managed to wear them more times in a row than I publicly admit, and whenever I finally decided to wash them, it's only because I felt a duty of decency, and not because the pants really looked themselves felt. or smelled dirty. And they dry quickly! You can wash them in the sink with a small amount of soap, wring them out by hand and hang them to dry overnight, and in the morning you will have dry pants. You can spill an entire 32-ounce bottle of water in your car seat while driving down the interstate, and after sitting in a puddle for 15 minutes until you've basically drunk all of 32 ounces, get out of the car and go on foot . 20 minutes of sun and have a dry butt again. yes, that happened too. You can get caught in a little rain for a short time and still be completely dry! (Note: They're water-repellent, not waterproof. The fabric repels water, but rapid exposure to high volume or light over a period of time will eventually saturate them.) They're fairly stretchy and well-designed. So you have full freedom of movement and comfort. I ran, walked, biked, climbed, sat in chairs and on the floor, squatted, jumped, crawled, knelt, did Pilates, drove in the car and lay on the couch like a bum, and I always felt comfortable and never restricted. And also? These are probably the nicest pants I've ever owned - they go with ALL pants including jeans and dress pants. The fabric falls beautifully and doesn't stick - no wedges or panties! The cut is very flattering - I have a hard time finding a flattering cut. The design isn't overly "sporty" - you can wear them off-piste and not look like you're wearing "sportswear". The fabric isn't shiny or "flexible" and doesn't have a lot of sporty stitching or zippers. The pants convert into capris and have little straps to keep the legs rolled up, but if you don't use this feature you'll never know. connects the straps to the outside of the pant, which is cleverly concealed under a small, hidden flap. The pockets are also discreet. If it weren't for the small Columbia logo printed on the back near the waist, it would be Saturday Trail pants just right for my office's casual business dress code. I'm 5'6", 125-130 pounds, an hourglass figure and a medium height bordering on short legs, and I wear a medium size 8 jeans. I like my pants to be tight but not tight. , and slightly longer, so I went back to my regular size 10. I love how they fit! Loose in the waist and I usually wear a belt, but I can wear them unbelted and they won't hang too low. They're skinny (but not tight) around my hips and loose (but not too baggy) on my knees and calves. When wearing shoes, the hem seals the hole in the shoe and allows for a "calf gap" fit, but the hem does not touch the ground. If you want them to fit as described in the product description, order the exact size. I ordered the color India Ink - judging by the color name and picture I was expecting something like a muted dark blue, but instead it's slate. Gray color with a bluish cast. Love the color and it goes with EVERYTHING! Only downside to the color is that it shows light dirt. My pants came out of the box with some white "storage dust" and it was very noticeable. The other 2 pairs are Grill, a light gray with a greenish brown tint, and they don't get as dirty.
