I also liked the performance and reliability of the Motorola/Arris Surfboard modems. But this last one, SB6183, really changed my mind. Bought it about 8 months ago. About 2 months ago I started losing connections and have to restart it every time. Then last month my download speed suddenly dropped from 10MB to 2MB and sometimes disappeared altogether. (does not seem to affect DL speed). I contacted Arris and they said their remote diagnostics showed that the download signal from the ISP was weak. A Cox tech came to me and checked that there was a strong signal and I hooked up the Cox to reconfigure the modem. No help. Cox couldn't even get a diagnostic signal from the modem. They concluded that something was wrong with the modem. I called Arris again for the third time and they insisted that the signal provided by Cox was too weak. So I'm stuck in the middle, running back and forth and wasting time. For some reason, it seems to me that Arris just doesn't want to replace a broken modem. I'm looking at other brands and hoping to find one before the SB6183 dies on me.
