The leather used for this sling is thick and of excellent quality. As soon as I opened the box I smelled the real leather. This is very similar to high quality, durable shoes, boots, wallets and belts. Only the shiny skin side may be used on the strap. The base is made from bamboo strips that are laminated and coated for added moisture protection. A thin rubber mat/liner glued to the underside of the base prevents it from sliding off the table or your hands. I reloaded the cord after use and kept it in the box it came in along with the green connector. The sling arrived unloaded. I heated the green mixture and applied it to the black skin, it set well. I thought it was too smooth, but the pores absorb the composition very well. Blades I cut them, sharp hair. I used whetstones to sharpen them and finished with a belt. I plan to clean my knives more often to extend the life of my blades and whetstones. All in all a pleasant and meditative experience for me.
