Okay, let's be clear: if you use them carefully and don't abuse them, they will last a few years before they wear out. For home use, they could last much longer unless your kids play with them. I worked in a VERY big restaurant and we cleaned the whole place with them twice a day and almost never had to use real vacuums, they worked so well. The only weakness is in the hand itself. It will break, so stop pulling on it. The main weakness is just below the round handle on top. If it breaks you can still use it, it's just less comfortable as the arm is much shorter now. Please also take out the trash after each use, otherwise it will clog. But even in this case, washing it off in the sink is not difficult. The hammer is fairly easy to remove and clean, but be careful when replacing it or the plastic locking mechanism will break. I know it sounds like a fragile car, but it is NOT.
