Review on OnePlus 9 Winter Mist by Simo Whisperer

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Replacing a faulty Pixel 3XL did the job perfectly, but there are a few niggles.

Full Disclosure. After reading that the One Plus Oxygen is an open source port of Android that gets pretty good reviews, I settled on the One Plus 9 5G. My carrier is Google Fi and I was so disappointed that they started selling Samsung phones which I'm not a fan of at all. The first thing I noticed after purchasing it is a pretty good fit and finish. It's not a brick, not slim per se, but it's a good weight. The width was a welcome change from the Pixel 3XL. This slight reduction in width made it much more functional as a one-handed phone. I'm not the type to really care about fingerprints, but you'll get fingerprints all over your back and face. Again what is there. Speed. When I put my Google Fi SIM into the device in front of the gate, the first thing that struck me was the speed. This is a fast, solid phone. which I guess. Especially since my Pixel was dead and I really needed a replacement that would be a decent upgrade. If you buy the unlocked version, there are a few settings you should consider so that your coverage uses both WiFi calls/data and roaming. Which leads me to believe that you need to make these adjustments in the settings menu. I wonder how many people bought this phone and thought gosh I have terrible coverage with this thing. So I call her. But then it's not an off-the-peg purchase. You have to fiddle around with the hardware a bit. Welcome to Android.lol.Charging. Wow just wow. I have a 15w wireless charger that I used with my Pixel and it charges the One Plus 9 5G. Very good. And I'm not sure I understand why people are complaining about wireless charging, but in my experience it's fine. At work, I charge it by plugging it into the docking station and it's FAST. And that when using the Pixel charging cable. Battery life. I don't think it's meant to pull the battery. It will be fully charged in one day. With lots of space. But in general, the battery life did not bother me. I've tested it with various and NUMEROUS battery life saving settings on the phone, some of which are confusing. again. Welcome to Android. But I like to play with things like that; Camera. Love it. That's great. I've literally taken photos with my Pixel that I think are amazing. And in the few weeks that I've had the One Plus 9 5G, I can't complain at all. If anything, I've noticed a depth of color that seems more realistic in both general and close-up shots, and to be honest I'm a bit shocked at how well the camera compares to the Pixel 3XL, which I really like Has. , a lot of. The interface is completely different, but it's responsive and the level of customization you can make to snap a photo is very different from the Pixel. What's not so good: Well, for the second week, I scratched the screen, just above the fingerprint sensor. I had it in my pocket with some keys, my bad ones, and was a bit surprised that it scratches so easily. I've had my pixel for over 3 years, I've handled the exact same thing, and I've never experienced it. The screen has never worn out. The scratch isn't bad, you can only see it if you look at it from an angle. But still. It concerns me. Fingerprint sensor: hit or miss. It's built into the front of the screen, which is nice. But it does take a few tries to unlock and if your fingers are particularly dry or just don't touch the sensor. Yes, you will get a warning and after so many attempts you will have to enter your pin code. To be honest, it doesn't bother me that much. But it annoyed me a few times. Choices!: There are a lot of things to play with in the settings, for me it doesn't really matter, for others it makes me think. I'm not sure I would recommend this phone to someone who isn't into settings. Or the person who just wants to turn it on on the go. File Transfer on Mac: It would be nice if I could connect my phone to my Mac to transfer files. The phone will automatically prompt you to install the USB driver when you connect it to a PC. Not so much with Mac. There was an article on the One Plus website about enabling developer mode so you can turn on USB logging so you can do file transfers. Tried didn't work. Not critical, but again not the most user-friendly experience. Conclusion: I like the phone and I think it will serve me for what I need. Speed, durability and camera. 5G coverage is uneven where I am right now, but I've noticed an increase in speed when viewed in the top menu bar. Again. Wow, a lot of icons in the top menu bar of the home screen. It's pretty funny. And camera, I've been using my phone with the camera on my Pixel all the time. If the camera on this phone was weak or compromised I would send it back quickly. But from what I've experienced, especially with the camera interface, I've got a lot to play with and I'm excited about it.

Pros
  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 888. Powered by the most powerful Snapdragon platform, OnePlus 9 5G keeps all apps running fast and smooth.
