Review on Schwinn Balance Toddler Bikes: 12-Inch Wheels for Beginner Rider Training in Multiple Colors by Drew Panah

Love the kickstand but mine had a leaky rear wheel

This 12" Pink Schwinn Balance Bike is cute - with a capital C! Easy to assemble, takes less than 10 minutes with a couple of wrenches and no need to look at the instructions. The rear tire leaked the first day after 20 minutes of very light riding indoors on the hardwood floor, but it only costs about $10 to fix at a local shop. I don't know if leaks are common or if I just pulled a short straw, but then again it costs about $10 to fix and should take less than 5 minutes if the store isn't too busy. The best thing I love is that it has a footrest. My son had a kids bike and wore it out. It did its job well, but it always had to dangle its legs after gaining enough speed. I've always felt that a boner would be cool and this one has it. A few things that may concern some parents. 1) This bike is quite heavy, especially for toddlers/preschoolers. 2) There are no brakes like on a kids bike but my son has never used brakes so this feature is not important to me but might be an issue for some parents. Update: It's been almost 2 years and this bike has held up well. I took the bike to a local shop and it cost me $15 - still worth it. Also, I emailed Schwinn and they sent me an extra tube. In any case, this was my second experience with these "pedalless" bikes and again the results do not disappoint. When they were older and ready, both of my kids went from these bikes to regular bikes without training wheels in minutes. The biggest problem after learning how to use regular bikes is flipping the bike. For them, it's like waking up and chewing gum, but once they get used to it, it goes downhill (pun intended). By the way, apart from a little dust because my little girl doesn't use it anymore, the bike looks almost new.

Pros
  • Great price
Cons
  • I don't really like it, it's ok
