Post-Build Fun

I bought this kit for one obvious reason - I hate getting hit by cars. Since I will be cycling to work every day for a while, I decided to get a bike LED kit. I'm only showing you the front set because I haven't even put them on the back yet. Pros - great looks, lots of colors and display options. I confess I was tempted to collect a few and use them to decorate my room! I have no problem with how they look or how they look. However, here are the downsides. First no instructions. Have you ever received a remote control for two devices? It's a bit counter-intuitive, but it's one of those old-school remotes. You have to point it at what you want to use it for. Once I understood that, everything became easier. My second major issue is that you get about ten zip ties to attach the lights to the spokes. If I only used them I wouldn't have enough for one wheel. I ended up using some zip ties (you can see the result in the photos) to attach them to all the pins. My biggest concern was that the glowing stripe would get stuck somewhere - on the rim of the wheel, between the spokes, between the brakes, whatever, so I used zip ties on all of the spokes. different spoke configuration and you need to keep placement in mind when bolting them on. It flexes a bit between the spokes and I had to move it down a bit because the end of the bolt was rubbing on the front fork. After about half an hour of operation, a wheel is ready and turning perfectly. Will it work long term? Just take a look. Consider me relatively satisfied. I'm a little worried about the battery compartment but so far it's holding up well.
