Works but clumsy with large dead zone

After much trouble removing the original joystick I installed one of these new sensors. This works but is awkward at the x/y transition on the right and the sensor calibration software confirms that the value jumps in this area. It also has a significant dead zone that is unplayable. I hate the thought of removing and replacing them again. It looks like the controller is fried. Don't waste your time with these joysticks. NO OEM quality.
