Review on πŸ’» ACASIS USB4.0 M.2 Thunderbolt 3 NVMe Dock: Portable Type-C SSD Reader & Tool-Free Enclosure at 40Gbps by Bobby Plymell

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Conforms to specifications and hype!

As you can see from the product description, the device has been "upgraded". Instead of a screw, you now have a rubber grommet to hold the NVMe drive in place. The included instructions still have the picture of the screws and screwdriver that were included earlier. I would have preferred a screw to attach the disc, but the rubber grommet seems to work fine. My case sits in one spot on my desk so my device barely moves to potentially damage the drive. But with the thermal pad installed and using the rubber grommet, I really don't see the drive coming loose with everyday use, even carrying/moving it. This device is definitely a 5 star product. I also bought a 2TB Pioneer TLC NVMe drive with a Phison PS5012-E12 controller to fit in this case. I chose this drive because of the Phison controller, the TBW for the Pioneer drive was one of the most expensive and the Pioneer drive comes with a 5 year warranty. The drive is FAST connected to my M1 Mac mini via TB 3/USB 4. Both reading and writing, I am constantly approaching the theoretical limits. When I run the speed tests, the write speeds start dropping off pretty quickly, but even when they do slow down, they're still more than fast enough for whatever you throw at them. The case can also get warm, but it never got close to a temperature where the device would be too hot to operate. All in all, it definitely lives up to expectations after a few days of using this device. There are currently no other products of this type compatible with TB 3/USB 4 and vice versa. Also, ignore the currently relatively low rating for this product. All one star ratings were due to a missing screw. The manufacturer has since corrected this quality control issue and now includes two rubber bushings.

Pros
  • I always liked it
Cons
  • Upgradable
