This is a great little pendant light at an affordable price, especially if that's all you need. bare pear and all. However, if you are hanging the cord from the ceiling, you will need a chain to prevent damage. The included hooks do this, but I'm concerned that the wiring inside might get damaged. If so, I'm not worried about that since it's so cheap. However, if you want to attach an umbrella or something similar, it is safer to use a chain. Aside from that, you'll need some sort of installer to sort out the bulb if you want to add a shade or cover. So if you're looking at this item and planning to fit it, you might be better off getting a kit that already has those items. In any case, buying these items individually didn't really make the price any higher than if I had bought the whole set, plus I have a spare cable, but it was less convenient. It's up to you to decide what worries you more.
