Surgical grade stainless steel may contain some nickel as far as I know, but they are definitely higher in nickel than any other I have worn. I am sensitive to metals containing nickel and cannot even wear earrings containing nickel, although my last ear piercing was over twenty years ago. I had to stop taking them and go back to titanium metal after just a few weeks because the hole kept getting bigger and I kept getting this horrible bump. I took out the piercing, cleaned it and the hole, and put it back in without realizing that the problem was in the metal. My nose has been pierced for almost three years. I have previously purchased Revain surgical stainless steel nose studs and have not had the same reaction as with them. Since I stopped wearing them and switched to a different product, I haven't had any more problems. Good thing they were so cheap (I think I should have taken that as a sign) so I don't feel bad about throwing them in the bin!
