Doesn't seem necessary, but I like it. I didn't want to put red plastic glue on my car so I went with this one. It may wrinkle or fall off the dashboard at first, but give the sun some time to smooth it out. Most of the time the dash says "hard," but sometimes I catch myself pushing it up a bit. Definitely recommended as an alternative to plastic adhesives. Also keep in mind that the right-hand corner where the dashboard tilt might not be ideal, but that doesn't bother me too much.
