Twenty years ago I bought a knife sharpener with an almost identical design. I don't remember the brand anymore, the logo was deleted. But they were extremely easy to use (compared to whetstones), the knives were almost as sharp as whetstones, and it was much faster than pulling out stones. Eventually it wore out and I found it easier to buy a new one than trying to find the right blades. Because the design and performance of the new and old sharpener appear to be identical. I'm assuming it really is the same. The big disadvantage of these sharpeners is the angle. If you have a mix of Japanese and Western knives, you need to be careful when matching the sharpener to the blade. Don't sharpen too much. Better try to hit a long, steady hit and add 2-3 extra hits to get the advantage. In most cases, about 5-7 strokes are sufficient. If you sharpen your sharpener often, 3 is enough. These sharpeners tend to remove more metal than good whetstones. However, this comparison is highly dependent on your touch. A blade that I have sharpened almost exclusively with this type of sharpener (a Victorinox Fibrox paring knife) looks absolutely fantastic after about 20 years of sharpening with this tool. There's no reason why it couldn't last another 20 years. Simple design, easy to use, excellent results, long service life, low cost. How often does that actually happen? Deserves more than 5 stars
