Review on πŸ”© Irwin Speedbor Drilling 10 Piece Set 1801022: The Ultimate Solution for Effortless and Precise Drilling! by John Vann

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Two stars for the product and one because I like the Irwin brand

The bits and case look impressive and promising. Just to get a feel for them I started drilling 2x4 studs with smaller bits using my Milwaukee 1/2" impact drill rated at about 6 amps. No problem, the holes looked clean and the bit came through by itself. Breaking through is possible with little effort as the threaded spindle cannot get caught if it sticks out on the other side. When I increased the dimensions, my drill started to complain! Limit for my drill as it hardly I had to stop, step back and start over.Considering this was a practice run on a fresh hairpin run at the optimal angle, height and position, I'm not sure how it works would have to drill into the ceiling beam in the fall position and / or hit a knot. With nozzles from 1 ", special care must be taken to use these nozzles with a secure hold and optimal placement end up. Yes, I understand that we always have to be careful, but these bits are much more aggressive than regular double-edged bits. Another anomaly I noticed was that the cut edges on the larger sizes were serrated rather than clean. Later I use a rock to clean up the cut edges and see if that improves drilling. When it comes to speed in speedbore, it's a compromise. The chisel moves more material and can be a bit faster in the smaller sizes but not sure in the larger sizes as they really get stuck in the turbulence and spin slower. I then used a 1-3/8" with my Milwaukee right angle bit. This bit performed much better. Again, hold on to the side handle and end of the bit unless you need a carousel. Finally, you'd like I say I like smaller bits. If I was going to be drilling large holes professionally all day I would consider some other designs. I don't recommend drilling more than 1" overhead while standing on ladders or step stools. It There are better drill bits that offer more control and put less stress on drill bits Another issue to consider is the shank size on a 1-3/8" piece. Note that this is an odd size of 11/32" even though Irwin offers full compatibility with 1/4" drivers. I have no idea why Irwin would choose a shaft of this size. The industry standard is 1/4" and 7/16" with any size extensions. 11/32" is not common at all and was possibly the deciding factor in Irwin having an audience of his own. Hole 1-3/8".
