Excellent 12x17 " scanner if 800dpi suits your needs

This scanner replaced a Plustek OpticPro A320L which failed after a few weeks of use. The two scanners appear to be identical except this A320E is a Toshiba 800 dpi uses picture element instead of the 1600 dpi Sony element in the A320L I don't need more than 600 dpi and the Toshiba element gives high quality scans, so considering the price difference the A320E is very attractive to me. One Touch' on the right margin , which in principle is a very good idea. But the DocAction/MacAction software that programs its functions is seriously inadequate, making it nearly useless, at least for my purposes. For me, the challenge is to scan consecutive pages into my ABBYY FineReader for batch editing and optical distribution. Text recognition, but DocAction offers no way of doing this, it insists on launching a new instance of FineReader for each new page. My job is to scan oversized artworks. But for this it is best to use VueScan, which has to control the scanner itself. So buttons are a good idea, but poor execution robs them of their value. I had a little trouble installing the scanner on Windows 10. I was able to solve the problem directly through Plustek's excellent online chat. I am attaching two scans to illustrate the scanner's capabilities. One of them is the default color and grayscale. Here you can see that the scan quality is very good, but not quite outstanding. The other is a very complex object, a 14k gold watch wrapped around a towel roll. The movement of the scan strip from right to left, resolution 400 dpi. Note that only the watch glass actually makes contact with the scanner glass. Aside from frustration with the one-touch scan buttons and a small residual concern about reliability (based on my poor experience with the A320L, which has a very similar mechanism), I'm satisfied that this scanner will serve my needs fairly well, but more modestly Price.
