I received my order in a very timely manner! It has a coating on it that needs to be followed the first time you use it, the seasoning instructions need to be followed, basically wash with soap and water and this should be the first and last time water should be used to put this press or to clean any cast iron cookware. Unless it's just something hot to loosen stuff that's stuck or there hasn't been a cooking disaster that would have caused the iron to burn out and the spices to rise again when the iron is damp, heat until dry and then cool the oil over a smoky fire, then with oil, then wipe off excess. (Yes, good black spice builds up over time to form a layer!) Having read all the previous reviews and questions before purchasing this press, I had an open mind. perfect for what i wanted! One thing people complained about was rust! A great rule of thumb: water and cast iron should never be mixed when the iron is hot, and never when the cast iron is cold! Another rule: always oil your iron and only oil it when the iron is hot and then let it cool down! Follow these two rules and your iron will never rust! , that's what cooking gloves are for! Spinning can be repaired by drilling a small hole in one or both cast mounts and driving a small nail or screw into the wooden handle. People sometimes overdo cleaning cast iron, it's unlike any other cookware. Cooking with heat ensures all nasties (microbugs) are destroyed, avoid steel cookware that can scratch spices and acidic foods! Most of my cast iron items are almost 35 years old and I have not seen water used to clean them. almost 34, after the learning curve. I wouldn't be surprised if the family can still use them in a few hundred years.
