It's been a while since I wrote a review but I had to share my experience with this toaster. I bought this toaster after reading the reviews (which sounded good). I chose this toaster. Really nice toaster (well I guess so). However, as some reviews have noted, it gives off a horrible "burnt plastic smell" on first use. I waved it many times to get rid of the toxic smell. Here's the icing on the cake: the metal frame surrounding the bread slots gets so hot you could burn yourself just touching it. My wife learned this the hard way. I have a 91 year old mother-in-law and a child. I would never have bought this toaster if I had known that. The frame pretty much covers the entire top of the toaster, so the risk of burns is pretty high. I've had many toasters over the years and never owned one that had this much combustion potential. In addition, around the metal frame of the slots there is a groove around the entire outer perimeter. Crumbs get in there and are very difficult to remove. As far as toasting bread goes, it does its job well. It will take some time to figure out which setting on the dial works best for the duration of the toasting process, but once you find the setting that works for you, the toast will be toasted nicely. Be sure to turn the toaster on several times after opening it. Crate. The smoke will dissipate after a while. I don't think it's a good idea to put toast in while you run this cyclic process. Pros: Nice design and good toast. Cons: Smells terrible on first use. Metal frames around toaster slots prepare you to burn yourself if you accidentally touch it. In addition, it is difficult to clean the groove around the slots of the frame. PS I paid 34.75 for this toaster (Prime). As of today, December 28, 2017, the price has dropped to 30.75 (Prime). I don't know what that means, but maybe the negative reviews affect the price.
