I received it today and decided to try it right away. I ran it on low 1 first without burning anything in it that could smell. Yes, it smelled slightly, but that was all there was. Then I toasted a slice of multigrain bread. There was no indication to only use a specific side for a slice, so I just pasted it in, set it to 2 and let go.
