Ordered hoping to put magnetic measuring spoons in the cupboard. I figured the thickness of the block would hold it far enough for the rounded spoons to sit flat. I also thought that the extra magnetic force would help keep the spoons upside down when the door is closed (my mistake). I took it out of the box and found there were two pieces. There was a flat piece of stainless steel metal with two holes to screw into the mounting surface. From the box were two pieces of plastic that you need to pull away from the magnet at one end. It's good you get two because the first one broke on my first try. Then I balanced the device on the table top and gently and evenly pushed the top back. It worked. But the difficulty of extracting it should have given me a clue as to the strength of these magnets. After detaching, I tried my magnetic measuring spoons on the thick magnetic part of the device. There seem to be a few magnets inside that are causing an interference issue with my measuring spoons. One stuck well, the next slipped off or even repelled. I quickly realized that this product would not work for me. I wanted to repackage the product to send it back. I was attempting to replace the plate when the metal plate was quickly attracted to the magnet and snagged part of my ring finger. The metal plate didn't move. I was left with one hand and could not move or ungrip the plates with one hand. If I was home alone, I would call 911. Even my two-armed husband tried unsuccessfully to separate it from my finger. He ran to the garage to find a small screwdriver he could just squeeze between the plate and the magnet's outer steel cover. With a screwdriver, my husband was able to loosen the stranglehold of the magnets just enough for me to scrape my finger out. Thanks to my quick-witted husband, the emergency lasted just over a minute. But the damage is done. I don't bring a product down because it doesn't work for my use case. but I do the creation of such a dangerous product for this purpose. I take responsibility for not being more careful as I could see prior to the incident this was clearly a strong magnet. But the company must either design this product in such a way that it has a means of escape if unsuspecting customers are surprised by the magnet's power, or design it in such a way that parts of the fingers do not get caught in the first place. If you choose to buy this for knives, this is clearly a strong product. Just be very careful. Wear gloves to be safe. FYI: I've read the instructions enough to know how to take it apart. But since I decided the product wouldn't work for me, I didn't read the rest of the quick start guide. Lesson learned: read all instructions first.
