(P0442) The vehicle's PCM (Powertrain Control Module) checks the EVAP system for major and minor leaks, among other things. This trouble code indicates a fuel vapor leak in the EVAP control system. This means that a very small leak has been detected. In more than 90% of cases, the gas cap has lost its tightness. For a few dollars, the problem can be solved, bypassing the much higher cost. Of course, the cap has to fit and seal properly. This cap is great. It's more expensive than the regular brands, but hey, it costs a few bucks more just to be absolutely sure you won't have to spend a few hundred or more expensive diagnostics and repairs.
