Reliable external drive with eSata and USB3. The 5 TB model uses a Toshiba HDWE150 7200 rpm hard drive. The reliability and performance of Toshiba hard drives is comparable to Western Digital hard drives. Good choice from Phantom. My previous 4TB Fantom Hard Dive lasted a little over 3 years with very heavy usage (backing up large image files to the server several times a day) before bad sectors started showing up. My 2TB Fantom has been used continuously as a backup drive for over 5 years. This is considered a normal hard drive lifespan of 3 to 5 years. My 2TB Fantom is a little over 5 years old and it still works. I can't remember what brand the hard drive was in the 4TB and 2TB models. Stay away from Seagate hard drives - they have the worst reliability, according to numerous sources on the Internet.
