Drive fails on first use

When drives fail, they usually fail instantly. That's how it was in this situation. .after working on it for a few days it's time to go back. I will look for a more reliable manufacturer. Now the temporary disconnection from the computer can also be the cable. However, my experience is usually that the cable needs to be touched or moved a little for it to come loose. The fact is that this disk simply disappeared and reappeared. Sometimes in an hour, sometimes twice in 3 minutes. I have many…

Pros
  • Lots of positive vibes
Cons
  • Available in white only

Reliable external drive with eSata and USB3. The 5 TB model uses a Toshiba HDWE150 7200 rpm hard drive. The reliability and performance of Toshiba hard drives is comparable to Western Digital hard drives. Good choice from Phantom. My previous 4TB Fantom Hard Dive lasted a little over 3 years with very heavy usage (backing up large image files to the server several times a day) before bad sectors started showing up. My 2TB Fantom has been used continuously as a backup drive for over 5 years…

Connected to my Directv Genie via eSATA cable for extra storage

So it's been a few months since I got my drive and it seems to be working great. I connected it to my Directv Genie via an eSata cable for extra storage. The only complaint I have is that it makes an odd crunch when rewinding or fast-forwarding. At night when not in use you can hear it buzzing a little and the little blue light is a little bright. Sometimes I turn it off at night but when I turn it back on the next morning I have to restart the receiver for it to work he works again with the…

Polished Poop in Computers & Accessories

I like the aluminum case. This was my second Fantom hard drive. It crashed almost immediately without even completing my first backup. The drive started to slow down and click more and more. I opened up my first Fantom hard drive (bought over 1 year ago) and found a Toshiba hard drive clearly marked as 'Refurbished'. This tells me that Fantom will probably buy a lot of refurbished drives for pennies, put them in a fancy aluminum case and sell them as "new". Without getting into the ethics of…

WON'T WORK ON MY HR54 DIRECTV

The only reason I'm giving this 3 stars is because it doesn't work with my HR54 DirecTV receiver, but I've read that others say that this Fantom hard drive works with her. So if you think it might work on your HR54, by all means give it a try. I won't stop you from buying it. I knew something was wrong when it literally took me an hour to change the setup on this hard drive. The reformatting process was pretty quick, but after that it took forever to set up. And when it was finally over, my…

Weird little device

Bought at a 4WD shop spinning in a box like they charge more juice than they give. I took out the hard drive, it's Hitachi HGST HUA722010CLA330, not a bad hard drive. The hard drive spins up normally in a regular desktop computer, so I thought, well, the box is bad. I put another used hard drive in the box, it works fine. so i'm confused One can certainly understand why it was returned. The drive has 0 hours and was made on 03/2018, I will probably have to find another home for it. --&gt…

Great deal for a good DVR expander

This 4TB external hard drive is used as a DVR expander for my DirecTV Genie. So here's a little background: I have Verizon Fios and DirecTV Genie at home. (Yes I have both for sports etc.). I have used Western Digital's 1TB expandable DVR expanders in both Directv and my Fios service for several years. Western Digital works great, though. 1TB just isn't enough when I'm going on vacation or recording a lot of shows during the week. I was looking for the perfect solution for my storage needs. I…
