Works great on M1 MacBook Air 2020 but BE CAREFUL.

I've used this with a MacBook Air with M1 and so far the experience has been very positive. The build quality of all metal, finish and color match the laptop perfectly. For reference, I have a space gray MacBook Air and a gray version of this adapter. They are very, very similar in color, differing only in a very slight hue at very specific angles, but close enough to be official! See photos. I also like that Purgo didn't label the device with a huge, ugly logo. The branding is only on the bottom of the device when plugged in (on the left side), so thanks for keeping the nice, clean aesthetic. Of course, all of this wouldn't mean anything if it didn't work properly. Tests so far it has worked as expected. I can easily connect thumb drives and an external drive, power cord (to a clearly labeled USB-C connector that supports power delivery), and import some data from SD cards into Adobe Lightroom at the same speed (or faster). ?) than my full fledged iMac with built in SD slot. Haven't been able to test the HDMI output yet, but the cable I have on my desk works great. I will update the test results if they are not as expected. Fits: It fits easily into the ports on my MacBook Air. I also like the little apple-style LED indicator that shows the device is connected and powered. I'm guessing it will be more flush with the MacBook Pro's edge, but since I have an Air, the tapered case clearly doesn't match the side of this adapter. Not as much. In short, this is one of the best devices in terms of design and price in this category of adapters. Things to watch out for: I recommend using this adapter when the laptop is on a stationary desk, NOT on your lap. . The reason is simple: it's a hard, inflexible block of thin metal that sticks out of the side of the laptop and connects to your computer with just two USB-C connectors. I can imagine a situation where you hit it with your knee or try to lift the computer while it's connected to a phone or external hard drive and the force of the UP or DOWN smack snaps the USB plugs into theirs connectors will break. If you typically work from a bed or sofa, you might be better off buying an adapter that looks more like a wrench with built-in flexibility. SD Cards: When this adapter is plugged into the LEFT side of your computer. like mine (MacBook Air only has ports on the left), then you need to insert the SD card into the reader REVERSED, that is, with the metal contacts UP. You don't want to use any other method and risk damaging the connector or SD card. 4K Monitors/Games: The description and instructions on the box state: Only supports 4K monitor output at 30Hz/ie: 30 fps. So if you're trying to hook it up for 4K gaming, the maximum frame rate is 30 fps. USB connectors and difficulty detaching: These connectors fit my devices very tightly, which is great for security. But that also means that if I try to remove them, I also run the risk of ripping the entire adapter out of the laptop. Therefore, you have to laboriously press the adapter onto the laptop when you unplug the device. This is important if you have multiple devices connected at the same time and only want to remove one device while other ports are transferring data etc. Other than those very minor (and somewhat obvious) limitations, this is a solid buy in every way!
