How I got the suction cups to hold firmly in my freezer

At first I encountered the same problem that many reviewers reported: the suction cups weren't holding up well enough to support the weight of the thermometer. Since I bought a thermometer to use in the freezer I decided to try freezing it in place. With the suction cups still attached to the thermometer, I wet the bottom of each suction cup, squeezed it firmly, and then removed the thermometer. There is a tiny hole in the center of the suction cup that will release air when you press it down. Successful suction requires a vacuum, so I pressed the suction cups in a circle in a circular motion, being careful not to put pressure on the small hole in the center of each suction cup. Without the weight of the thermometer, the wet suction cups are frozen solid. A few hours later I put the thermometer back on. Since the suction cups were still holding the thermometer firmly in place a few days later, I decided to test it by hanging a keyring with 8 keys and a small Swiss Army knife on the thermometer. The suction cups were attached firmly enough to support the weight of a thermometer and a heavy set of wrenches. As you can see in my pictures I put the thermometer on top of the freezer. To be able to read it, I bent the clips outwards at a 45 degree angle. This put the thermometer in a readable position when I attached it to the roof of my freezer.
