I have a Nikon P1000 Coolpix that I use for some astronomy photography. On my tripod, sometimes the height adjustment knob goes down before the camera is high enough. The ball head becomes really dangerous with a heavy camera or a large telephoto lens. The Z mount is a practical alternative. It has the added benefit of helping with low-angle shots too, and the fact that it only changes one axis is a plus in those cases too. This mount has good locking knobs rather than a hex key (too fiddly) that still offers plenty of holding torque. Finally, the price is really affordable and the Z-plate attaches directly to the quick-change base of the archwire. recommended
