The only option to pair with VC-818TX

Let me first say that if you are looking for a solution to setup and easily trigger an external flash, this product is a great solution. The combination is very reliable and relatively inexpensive. However, this was not the problem I was trying to solve. I have a couple of Vision 5 flashes (they are great!) and another studio flash that I had to add to the setup script. I wanted to control/start the setup from my camera's Vision 5s VC-818TX transmitter. The VC-16RX from this VC-16 kit allowed me to sync to a PC and run another studio flash with the VC-818TX along with the Vision 5. So this was the solution! But it wasn't a particularly elegant solution (which is why I gave this product 3 stars) due to the following limitations.1. The 818TX only has 8 channels compared to the 16 on the 16RX. So you cannot set "0" or "9" to "15" as channel to 16RX. Little problem; but something to know about.2. 16RX has no ID or group settings. So these 818TX settings do not affect the 16RX.3. Therefore, it doesn't matter which groups are enabled or disabled, or what modes are set on the 818TX. When the 818TX and 16RX are set to the same channel, the 818TX will fire the 16RX with all manual settings on the slave flash when the camera's shutter button is pressed. If you don't want the 16RX remote flash to fire, you must physically disable the flash or 16RX.4. You cannot change any of the settings on the connected 818TX 16RX flash. This trigger is only function.5. This is NOT a limitation. 16RX will NOT affect the 818TX settings for other flashes like the Vision 5 which are also controlled by the 818TX. (And that's why it's worth using 16RX with 818TX)6. A 16TX transmitter in this VC-16 housing will gather dust on a shelf in this application scenario. (I wish I could just buy the VC-16RX separately. Or better yet, buy the VC-818RX).

Pros
  • Elegant design
Cons
  • Long delivery time
