Review on PUR PFM800HX: Cutting-Edge Horizontal Bluetooth MineralClear for Effective Filtering by Michael Lucas

Short Life - Water filtration and water softener

We've been using polyurethane faucet water filters for about 10 years (maybe longer?). When I realized how much waste we create from plastic bottles, I decided that we need to change something. At first the PUR block we had was great! Our first unit probably lasted 5 years or more and only had to change the filter itself every few months. I decided a few years ago to buy a new, nicer filter. Since then I've bought at least 3 of these. They just don't last. The seal or O-ring bursts and the filter becomes unusable. The warranty on them is 1 year, but even that didn't solve our problem. You have to send the filter back (and YOU have to pay shipping) and then wait a few weeks to get a replacement. The last time ours broke I decided to buy a new one thinking it was just a lemon. But within a year the 2nd filter broke, apparently with the same problem. Looks like they have a manufacturing or design issue. And honestly I don't want to buy bottled water for the next month while waiting for a replacement. Instead, I'm looking for a 5 or 9 stage under-sink filter. They filter a lot more contaminants and even for the added cost I'll honestly probably spend less in the long run as I won't be spending as much on this filter replacing it so often. I would advise everyone to first explore the options available with a good brand name. You still have to change the filters annually, but from what I've read it's probably worth buying a faucet mount that will probably last 6 months to a year.

Pros
  • REDUCES 70 POLLUTANTS. This PUR PLUS drinking water filtration system is certified to remove 70 contaminants including lead and mercury. PUR faucet filtration systems are certified to remove 10x more contaminants than the best Brita can filter. .*Ƚ
Cons
  • Not as thick as other filters
