We've been using polyurethane faucet water filters for about 10 years (maybe longer?). When I realized how much waste we create from plastic bottles, I decided that we need to change something. At first the PUR block we had was great! Our first unit probably lasted 5 years or more and only had to change the filter itself every few months. I decided a few years ago to buy a new, nicer filter. Since then I've bought at least 3 of these. They just don't last. The seal or O-ring bursts and the filter becomes unusable. The warranty on them is 1 year, but even that didn't solve our problem. You have to send the filter back (and YOU have to pay shipping) and then wait a few weeks to get a replacement. The last time ours broke I decided to buy a new one thinking it was just a lemon. But within a year the 2nd filter broke, apparently with the same problem. Looks like they have a manufacturing or design issue. And honestly I don't want to buy bottled water for the next month while waiting for a replacement. Instead, I'm looking for a 5 or 9 stage under-sink filter. They filter a lot more contaminants and even for the added cost I'll honestly probably spend less in the long run as I won't be spending as much on this filter replacing it so often. I would advise everyone to first explore the options available with a good brand name. You still have to change the filters annually, but from what I've read it's probably worth buying a faucet mount that will probably last 6 months to a year.
