This was the cheapest cable modem I could find anywhere, simple and straightforward. I primarily associate Arris with institutional rather than consumer applications, so I was hoping it would be a bit more reliable than some of the products sold by commercial vendors. It wasn't hard for me to call my ISP and set it up on my system and in 8 months it would have fully paid for itself in exchange for the absolutely exorbitant fees my ISP charged for "modem rental". I just wish I could take the plunge sooner. Compared to the device I "rented" they were comparable but a little less coherent. Sometimes I get very high speeds and sometimes very slow. This may be related to the overall load on the network from the ISP, but I also found that it seemed sluggish most of the time compared to the much newer device I previously had. Also, I really appreciate the simple structure, small footprint, light weight and low power consumption. Overall I think it's a relief rather than paying repetitive, unnecessary, and outrageous fees for essentially the same thing.
