Review on πŸ“€ Enhanced Performance: Memorex MVD2022 DVD Player by Kevin Folsom

Almost completely useless.

I've never had good luck with Memorex products; This one did absolutely nothing to change my mind. In fact, it was even worse than most Memorex products. I got it as a gift a few years ago (I would never buy a Memorex alone) to replace a worn out CD player. In addition to the inconvenience of not having a display when not connected to a TV screen (which isn't very useful when used as a stereo component rather than a DVD player), it didn't even play CDs. Spring; A few CDs that played well on EVERY other player I put them in failed badly no matter how thoroughly they were cleaned. So I gave it up as a CD player and it wasn't used until I finally broke down and got some DVDs when some of the movies I wanted weren't available on VHS and at that time (MAY maybe 6 months ago) i have it connected it as a dvd player. It worked fine for about 3 months, maybe 4, and then it started twitching a bit. Now and then there was no sound (although all connections were there when checked). Sometimes removing and reinserting the drive fixed the problem, sometimes it didn't and I had to try again. In the end, I was always able to get him to work, but it was very weird and annoying. Then, less than a week ago, after playing one disc, I put in another and got a "No Disc" message. I've tried ejecting and cleaning the drive as well as replacing it to no avail. I disconnected and reconnected the player; which solved the problem ONCE. The next time I tried to play from the disc the same thing happened and disconnecting and reconnecting didn't help. After a few tries, the player simply stopped responding to all stimuli; It doesn't respond to any button on the remote or on the device itself, including the 'Open' button, so I can't even open it to try to clean it. That's less than 6 months in use (and still light weight; we still use a VCR a lot more than a DVD player as 90% of our movies are on VHS), it's a paperweight. Buy ANY Memorex product but ALWAYS not this one.
