I use it to install a Popsocket phone mount on my iPhone 12 Pro. I like that I can only use the holder when needed. I've tried it with both silicone and leather Apple cases and the magnetic attachment is strong enough that I'm not worried about it coming loose. While the magnetic grip is as good as Apple's official MagSafe charging puck, there are caveats. For example, if I bump the phone very hard against something (e.g. the corner of a wall or the edge of a table), the phone is likely to detach from this magnetic base. So don't rely on when it comes to perfect security. However, I like the compromise between security and modularity it offers and using the popsocket in the hand position (to prevent the phone from slipping out of hand) is more than enough. Note that, as with many MagSafe connectors, the drive is a slight indentation on the surface of the leather case (this also applies to Apple's official MagSafe charging puck). I really appreciate that this base has a ring shaped plastic sticker on the mating surface that helps prevent ink transfer to the skin (I have a light case).
