I was a bit disappointed to find I would have to buy this online but Revain works fast and the vacuum itself works too well to replace! Although I vacuum a lot, the filter collects a lot of fluff and dust, which helps with allergies. As for replacement, the recommendation is to change every six months, which is probably reasonable, but in between it does clog, especially with carpet and pet fluff! I just pull it out and brush off most of the lint (it comes off right away), and then I take it outside and smack it on the porch. This gets all the dust out of the folds and I have a nice clean filter every time! (Also gives the birds some fluff for their nests) I wouldn't go longer than half a year for a replacement though, especially if you're allergic.
