Purchased to replace the stock fan resistor on my 2000 Ford E150 Van. With my van, I had to remove the battery and battery compartment from the car to replace mine. This fan motor resistor comes with a replaceable wire harness which is fine for my application although I have not used it yet. Trust me I understand why they give you one with the kit. I've never had as many problems disconnecting the factory wiring harness from the fan resistor as I have with this Ford Van. It appeared to be glued, but instead there was rust and corrosion in the connector to the resistor. If you're changing one, take some WD40 or PB Blaster or some other penetrant and wet the plug that goes into the resistor for a while. Even doing this and using pliers to unplug the original Ford fan resistor was no easy task. I broke both ears on the side of the connector but removed it and took the original resistor out of the firewall. There was a lot of dead leaves and debris inside the firewall behind the resistance. This may have contributed to the failure of the factory resistor, so I took a small shop vacuum that I own and used it to vacuum the dirt that was inside as best I could until I had cleaned about 95% of everything. All this junk was resting on the air conditioner evaporator, which I could feel inside with my fingers. Anyhow, it was probably a good idea to clean it to improve the A/C airflow to the evaporator. Anyway, I put in a new resistor and screwed it on. In the meantime I took some more WD 40 and this time sprayed it on the inside of the original connector, used a small flathead screwdriver to clean the connections in the connector and plugged it straight into the new resistor to test. I then took some car dielectric grease, plugged it into the connector and used it again, although there were no longer any plastic clips to hold it securely. I thought it didn't matter. I don't think it will come loose, but as I mentioned, Dorman gives you a spare seat belt in the box if you decide to replace it. I just didn't want to do any more work that I thought I could get away without. I've been working with cars since the 1960's so my guess is that I didn't feel the need to change the wiring harness at that point and I doubt I'll ever have to, so I fitted an extra wiring harness into the truck's console , where I know where it is if I ever need to change it.
