Problem with screen recognition?

For some reason the VGA connector is faulty. When an external monitor is connected via the VGA port, the image is stretched and distorted, such as the desktop on an external monitor. I checked the display settings and everything was set correctly for external display detection. I need to disconnect and reconnect VGA to fix the picture problem. That doesn't happen with the old VGA to USB-C adapter I've been using for years.
