Review on 🌐 Enhance Your Network Efficiency with the Belkin F5D7231-4P High-Speed Mode Wireless G Router and USB Print Server by Bernard Foley

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Acceptable wireless network performance; good usb print server

comment on the router: the wireless router coverage is ok but not great. The WiFi signal appears and disappears even if the distance between the router and the computer is about 100 feet. The router setup software that came with the CD was unable to detect my Internet connection. Since I was somewhat familiar with router configuration (this is my second router), I was able to make some changes to the router configuration to fix the erratic setup process. However, if this is your first router or you've never looked into configuring a router before, getting the wrong router installation process can be a bit of a problem. When you call the toll-free support number, automated voice prompts will first try to diagnose your problem and provide you with instructions on how to fix the problem. I was too impatient to dig through the automatic prompts before I could reach a live person, so I just hung up and solved the problem myself (although the automatic help prompts put me on the right track). Firewall comments: There is no SPI filtering built into the router's firewall. Otherwise everything looks fine. USB print server comment: The USB print server works with my Epson C-86 printer. The installation of the USB print server went smoothly. I am happy. Overall: The two best things about a router, which form the basis of this 4-star rating, are: a USB print server that actually works, and the exceptionally low price that J&R is offering here through Revain (remember, that you buy 2 products for the price 1 , namely a wireless router and a USB print server). Sure, the wireless router portion of this Belkin router works, but I wasn't impressed with its coverage. If you don't need an integrated USB print server, I think you can find a better wireless router for a slightly higher price (see Linksys model: WRT54GS). Update (October 15, 2005): I've learned from my own experience (and PC Magazine's review of a similar Belkin router without a USB print server) that using this router in HSM (high-speed) mode reduces signal strength. noticeably and you cannot get a good signal. in everything except short distances. I disabled the HSM feature and now I have better signal quality.
