Real kit guide or video guide

I see many people saying that this stand fits their artificial Christmas tree. I have a brand new 6ft Christmas tree that we bought from K-Mart. The stand that came with the kit proved flimsy as I have 2 kittens that are only 8 months old. I wanted something wider and more durable. The base of my tree is smaller than the hole and looks very similar to what is shown in the picture. There are no other instructions explaining how to make it denser on a smaller pole, so I returned the tree to its original stand. I was so hoping this would work.
