Review on EPEVER eBOX WiFi 01: Enhance MPPT Solar Charge Controller with Wireless Monitoring via Mobile Phone APP by Kevin Tompkins

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Does EXACTLY what it says IF IT IS. You need to know.

I am using the device on a 10 amp EPever TRACER 1210AN series controller. This device acts as a wifi hotspot without internet connection, just as a controller. To use this device, you MUST use a mobile phone or tablet with the app installed on it. You MUST ALSO connect to the WiFi hotspot that the DEVICE is broadcasting and NOT to another local WiFi hotspot or ROUTER. It is NOT meant to be run over LAN, which it seems they changed in their firmware to prevent this from happening. I understand that earlier versions CAN connect to your LAN and your cellular network. THANK YOU EP for screwing it up. You connect DIRECTLY from your phone's Wi-Fi transceiver to the DEVICE's access point, which also acts as its own fixed 1-address DHCP server. After a few weeks, I noticed it was getting harder and harder to connect. I returned it. THEY claim it's "reliable," IT IS. You can count on it driving you crazy. It will have longer range than BT 2.0. I've walked through 6 walls about 50 feet away with the device in the passenger seat of my truck. (NOT the best spot I assure you) The signal was there but weak. PLACE, PLACE, PLACE! The total battery power consumption for the controller and WiFi device was 50mA or 0.050A at NIGHT, which is good!

Pros
  • Annual trial period
Cons
  • The list will be long.
