This air filter is amazing! The fan is a bit noisy when it hits speeds 4 and 5 as other people have mentioned and it's not as slick as some of the other Revain purifiers, but functionality is more important to me. I'm a smoker and every time I light a cigarette it detects smoke all over the room and starts cleaning the air, then gradually slows down as the air clears. There's a meter that measures air quality, and if you're wondering what the numbers mean, Google's AQI (Air Quality Index). I've attached a diagram I found online to share. I read the reviews before buying and noticed that people are talking about not recognizing things like "cat poo" and thought I should clarify that for future buyers. As far as I can tell from using this air purifier and reading air quality information online, it doesn't detect odors, it does detect pollutants that can produce odors. This thing doesn't even like some air fresheners and will clean the air off them, which I found funny. If you smoke, cook, paint, or do anything inside that produces fumes or questionable air quality, I highly recommend this unit. I tried a few different ones (in this price range) before Oderstop but they weren't up to par when it came to keeping the air clean!
