Well, you gain something, you lose something. My 3 year old loves it. But my husband and I just like that he loves it. Otherwise I'm not a fan. We got this because my mother-in-law has an undyed variety, soft and very sandy with an untouchable airy feel. basically it's great! But the color, at least the blue, isn't that great. I'm not saying this is a bad product but the color of the sand shimmers on fabrics, leather and floors which is my biggest issue. I don't know what exactly is behind this either, but I think something in the chemistry is somehow compromised when this sand is colored because while uncolored appears hard but soft, the blue appears quite hard and not soft at all.
