Review on DayMark Classic Thermometer for Stainless Steel Refrigerator/Freezer by Misty Myers

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Great accuracy for a $5 thermometer, but poor design isn't it!

There are two things to consider when purchasing a fridge/freezer thermometer: temperature accuracy (performance) and design (engineering). measured with accuracy but may not "measure" the convenience of hanging, attaching, or placing in a conspicuous location in many refrigerators or freezers. $, you often need to "puff" your unit by buying thermometers to ensure your unit supports safe freezing/chilling. I have two of these DayMarks along with one of the reference standard liquid science thermometers (HB Tools 5/2210 full immersion glass ) bought organic liquid thermometer) recommended by another peer reviewer as a reference range for comparing performance of e DayMarks I also found DayMarks to be accurate within 2-3 degrees Fahrenheit of the HB standard and very close to HB.PROS: 1. Very well made for a $5 thermometer.Sturdy stainless steel case and bezel.2.Large, easy to read 2.4" tempered glass face is non-condensing.3.Clear, unobstructed readings and dial calibration with a red "safe" area.4. Rated NSF5.Calibrated to 2 degrees with HB 5/Durac 2210 liquid thermometer CONS: 1. Difficult to store in many fridges and/or freezers r important to mount or hang. The built-in hook is designed to be hung on wire rack shelves, however many refrigerators have glass shelves. a gap that allows the thermometer to hang or interfere with shelf storage. The built-in "stand" is flimsy, unwieldy, and easy to tip over. (see photo). The back of the thermometer is not flush and has a raised nipple in the middle, making it an unacceptable choice from a technical point of view, especially for items of this type that cost less than $10. Consumers would benefit from more transparency. RECOMMENDATIONS: 1. However, this is an excellent choice when you need a fairly accurate (to within 2 degrees Fahrenheit) thermometer. Design flaws (easily fixed) make this a 3.5 star product.2. I suggest using a "stand" and attaching a piece of velcro or other heat resistant mounting tape to the fridge shelf.3. Always compare the temperature to an appropriate reference standard to assess accuracy over time. The relatively inexpensive HB Instruments 5/2210 or 5/0220 full immersion liquid glass thermometer should give you an excellent cross check.
