Yes it was a hassle to assemble but this item will last. My gerbil has had several cages and this is her favorite and mine too. This cage allows her to tunnel all over the floor and she loves it. I love the fact that with all their digging and tunneling, this is the least messy thing to create. She likes to jump in like on a playground. Yes, sometimes her long ladder gets knocked off the landing, but I just put it back. I use zip ties for her water bottle and her impeller is on the second deck and her food is either upstairs with her plate or scattered downstairs. She loves it. I think it fits in here perfectly and she can't bury it like she does everything else. She loves to chew on sticks, although she has plenty of toilet paper rolls and wood for chewing and tunneling fun. Her tankmate died so I'm looking for a new one right now, but she's a bit territorial.
