Before buying I bought an FM transmitter to connect my iPod to - avoid! Then I got iCarPlay, which made things a lot better. Now I can play anything on my iPod with reasonable fidelity. The problem with my setup that needed to be solved was that the device only works acceptably for one tape direction; When the tape playback is played backwards, the iPod plays a very faint creaking sound. Whenever the iPod plays badly, I simply change the direction of the tape.
