I use all kinds of fabric marking methods for darts, notches, centers and other things I need to keep the seams where they should be. I make doll clothes for Barbie - they are tiny and I have to mark them carefully. This particular mechanical pencil marker works very well on some fabrics but not all. It comes with three colors of ceramic lead (pink, green, and white), which is nice but a bit awkward at times. If you're used to using a regular office or school mechanical pencil, this one will work just as well. You remove the top half and insert a piece of lead into the bottom half's cylinder; Then put the two halves together and press down on the eraser by flicking it until the lead starts to come out of the writing tip. Use a light hand with this leash and it won't break. I didn't find the eraser very comfortable, but it's long enough to rotate if needed. The marks usually remain visible long enough for me to sew them on, but they are short-lived and sometimes disappear before I get to that particular part of the pattern. Be careful with that pen and remember that no marking tool will work for everything you sew.
