My initial assessment of the slicer was that it was well made and reliable. The cutting wire broke after two weeks. It wasn't good but the device had 2 extra wires so I figured I was covered. Because the wire needs to be trained very well to work properly, it is a bit short, maybe a sixteenth of an inch. There are 2 blocks attached to each end of the wire that need to be inserted into the square holes. After 45 minutes of trying, I clamped one block with a vise and the other with pliers, pulling on the wire to make sure it was seated in each block. I succeeded after a few minutes but I assume this has weakened the wire which may cause it to break in a few weeks like last time. However, it is too difficult to change the wires - a serious design flaw.
