I have to say the connections are almost invisible. That was my biggest concern. When ironing, it's important to understand that once the glue starts to melt, the veneer will move quite easily. Trimming with a small planer works well, but check the grain direction so you don't accidentally cut into the plywood veneer. I ended up trimming with 120 grit sandpaper; it took a little longer but also got rid of the splinters. I played around with the iron and found that it takes almost 30 seconds to achieve perfect adhesion. Even with this "long" pressing time, the veneer is not burned.
