I approached this game with some trepidation because my typical budget for a single board game is around $20-30. That being said, I definitely got my money's worth with this purchase. If you're a fan of deck-building card games (think Dominion, not Magic: The Gathering) and like to roll a lot of dice, then this is definitely a good addition to your collection. Most people I've played with have been able to understand the basic mechanics of a game. Educational games usually last half an hour or more as people get faster in turn order and such. Once players get comfortable with the mechanics and strategy, the game can last as little as 15 minutes. Official recommendations apply to people aged 14 and over. I have taught my 8.5 year old daughter to play and am planning to teach my 7 year old son to play. My daughter doesn't really understand strategy, so she's not really "good" at the game, but she's having fun, which is more important at the moment. A note on quality: the figures are solid for the most part: the dice bags that come with them are solid and feel good; Bones appear well balanced; The cards are of standard poker deck shape and quality. However, due to the manufacturing process, some dice have some image quality issues. While this does not prevent the use of dice, it does lead new players to wonder what this strange symbol means, although it is merely a defect in the dice. The box the game comes in is huge. The official rationale for this is that there is room for more cubes for expansions and the like, but each also comes in a box. On a small gaming budget, I moved my game into an old Apple mouse box that was about 6" x 6" x 2" and everything fit great. I'll probably have to come up with a bigger box if I starting to buy extras but for now it's nice and compact.
