I needed to connect a second monitor (Wacom Cintiq) but only had one HDMI port and one DP port. I used this to move my original monitor to DP and connect Wacom to HDMI. This adapter does the job and there is no visible difference in picture quality on my monitor. However, my only complaint is that the connection somehow doesn't seem 100% reliable: every now and then my monitor flickers black for just a second. It's not common and it's only for a moment, but I've never done this before, so I suspect something is defective in the adapter. Hence 4 stars instead of 5. But it's worth it because it's a very small issue.
