This wok is coated with a layer of non-stick chemicals or dark paint. I found out in the WORST way: by cooking for my family. After the FIRST boil in this wok during washing, the coating came off. THIS wok could be steel, maybe even carbon steel. Who knows. However, this dark color is not due to the "carbon" in the steel. That is, a non-stick coating that is toxic to all people and life, causes cancer and is absolutely not destroyed. All people who have eaten food cooked in a coated pan have already been poisoned. To avoid even more poison, I bought a STAHL wok. IF YOU WANT A WOK WITH A TOXIC COATING IN YOUR FOOD EVERY COOKING TIME, THEN THIS IS THE WOK FOR YOU.
