The goal was to update the OK Toastmaster with something that would make toasting more even. This block failed in that purpose. The slits are long which is nice. This allows him to handle bread well in an "artisan" way. But that's where the pluses end. Although the bread is compressed on both sides, the heating elements glow unevenly. They are hotter on one side than the other, and within one side some segments glow hotter than others. Result: Bread that is more toasted on one side than the other. They also fry more at the top than at the bottom. Don't they make toasters that toast evenly? UPDATE: After increasing the toast level to about 6, the toaster works quite well. I believe that on lighter settings it's inevitable that *some* of the bread will brown before the rest. It seems a bit odd that a score of 6 is moderately toasted. But now I'm happy with the toaster.
