I have not used this gravel for aquariums. I used it as a ground cover for my houseplants. We bought a new plant with fancy organic potting soil and it was causing a HORRIBLE ground mosquito problem. I didn't even know it was a thing. But it was terrible. I've read that covering the bottom with some gravel will solve the problem, and it really does! No more mosquitoes. Not only was the gravel functional, but I think our plants look a lot nicer now! The color of the gravel was exactly like the picture - a natural tan.
