I bought this camera to replace my Olympus CZ730U which I have owned for 4 years and was delighted with the P80's unique features and clarity. The zoom worked very well, although it sometimes stutters when trying to focus at maximum zoom. I disabled the digital zoom which is useless to me in any camera. In night mode, it is difficult to adjust the camera to ambient light, even when flash mode is on. Whether you're taking great, perfectly focused photos of moving subjects or from inside a car, you want to capture that unique photographic moment. I mainly shoot model trains and macro detail is very important. In macro mode the P80 does a good job, although the flash is disabled in this mode and cannot be used for backgrounds. The scene modes are amazing, despite using this camera for over two months there is some difficulty in portrait mode getting the focus to show the blue border but even with the red border and flash the photos come out very well . When shooting at 10MP FINE, the highest resolution this camera can capture, it waits almost a full 5-7 seconds before getting ready to take the next shot. The video quality is mediocre and I wish Nikon had put more effort into this mode as the lens is very capable for shooting. Another downside is that video doesn't let you zoom the full range of the lens, giving you a maximum of 3x to 4x optical zoom. Also, the video is limited to 30 minutes. Clips max, but it creates folders that you can edit with the most basic editing software like WMM in Vista. But it's a handy feature worth having in your camera if you forgot your camcorder, otherwise use a professional camcorder. Battery life seems very good, at least for now since it's brand new, although I bought a spare just in case. (especially for holidays). I am using a Delkin Pro 16GB SDHC card which can store 10kb photos at 1mp or more than 3.5kb in 10mp mode. Great card from Sam's Club. All in all, I have to say that this camera does my job well, at least for the two months I've had it. I haven't ventured into other A/P/M features, but I think it will turn out to be just as good as Scene Mode. I hope it doesn't become obsolete for at least the next 5 years. This was a good deal from Revain and is excellent value for money.
